LEAP in the News – San Francisco Examiner

LEAP is honored to be featured in a February 2, 2023 article from the San Francisco Examiner. Author Allyson Aleksey cited reporting from the American Bar Association on the need for diversity programming in California. Aleksey described LEAP’s response to this need in the form of LEAP’s robust resources for aspiring attorneys. She interviewed LEAP fellows Jannet Gomez and Leslie Estrada Flynn for the piece. LEAP 2020 Fellow Flynn, who is now attending the Golden Gate University School of Law, shared that, “It’s so hard to navigate the application process to law school if you don’t have someone there to help you along the way. Pipeline programs like LEAP provide that needed mentorship.” LEAP 2021 Fellow Gomez, now a law student at Stanford, noted how the lack of diversity in the legal profession contributes to “a marginalized perspective in the way law is interpreted.” Representation matters, as the profession is an integral agent for social change, she said.
